Why I chose to research this topic
Growing up was difficult at times. Simply because of my religion. I am a young Muslim women who wants to speak up about the inaccurate idea that the media portrays about the religion of Islam, which is the religion of peace. I want to create awareness of how many Muslim individuals feel surrounded by the discrimination. I want others to hear my voice when I say, "Freedom of Religion is NOT Freedom to Discriminate!"
Art
For the art portion of my project, I created a painting and the meaning behind it focuses on freedom of religion. You are able to practice any form of religion that you believe in, in the United States. I decided to focus on Islam since that is the religion my family and I follow. I wanted to share a message that everyone has the right to freedom of religion, but there are also individuals who make it hard for you to live your freedom. Media creates a false idea with how muslims are. They say that all muslims are terrorists and want to create harm to others in the United States. In fact, Islam is the religion of peace. Since the media has been portraying Islam as such a violent religion that has violent followers, violence and attacks have been targeting Mosques across many states. I wanted to create a painting that shows the truth of how muslims actually are, and how they continue to fight and stay positive when the world seems to attack their religion and beliefs. I used different techniques within my painting that I have seen from different pieces of artwork, to follow and meet the thinking skill. I included a woman covered in traditional Islamic clothing in the center of my painting because I wanted the viewer's eye to go straight to her telling her message. The way that I decided to share the message within my painting is to use quotes that I have researched and write them in Arabic and then write the English translations with them as well. I saw many pieces of artwork that have included Arabic writing throughout them, which I thought that was important for me to include the Arabic writing in my painting because the Holy Book, the Quran is originally written in Arabic. I used the color red to symbolize the pain many muslims in the United States face solely because of the hate and discrimination from others because of them following and practicing their religion. The experience that I had creating this painting was a little emotional for me because I have experiences issues with me following my religion and I always continue to fight for my believes and values in Islam.

Social Studies
For the social studies portion of my project, I made changes to the Bill of Rights and added amendments that I felt like applied more to issues we face today as a society. Before making my final product, I conducted research first to understand the history of the Bill of Rights and important figures within that time. I focused on issues such as gun rights, the right to privacy, and freedom of speech and religion. The thinking skill was within my project when I created a product by using a previous idea or product to create something new, which in this case, are the updated amendments.

English
For the English I worked on college based requirements. I created a resume, college app and a college research paper. Throughout the process of creating the listed products, I was able to continue to build on certain skills such as vocabulary, structure and organization within my writing. The college research paper also helped me decide between colleges that I was interested in attending based on the financial aspect between them.

The thinking skill was used within my project, specifically in my college research paper by comparing and contrasting the three colleges, Temple University, Penn State York and West Chester University, and creating a final idea after listing all of the researched facts and other information.
